He was crippled in a fall several years ago and suffered a stroke in 2023. Your support will help cover costs of this site and provide more frequent updates.
Delaware Poetry and Writing Groups.
The current Delaware State Poet Laureates are:
Nnamdi Chukwuocha and Albert Mills (known as the Twin Poets). Governor Jack Markell appointed the Twin Poets, Representative Nnamdi O. Chukwuocha and Albert Mills, as 17th Poets Laureate of the State of Delaware on December 13, 2015.
The Twin State Poet Laureates of Delaware are an incredible story of lifetimes of dedication to literacy. From the Delaware Arts site read: ‘As the Poets Laureate for Delaware, the Twin Poets plan to be strong advocates for poetry throughout the state by: Incorporating poetry/spoken word and creative writing programming into schools, libraries and community centers’.

For the past several years, thousands of Delaware high school students have participated in the Poetry Out Loud State recitation competitions, sponsored by the Delaware Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Your high school is invited to participate!
Poetry Out Loud is a wonderful program for students. The program helps the develop Stage and speaking skills, confidence and a love of poetry. Poetry really needs to be spoken to truly be enjoyed. Poetry Slams are events in which adults and students read and perform poetry for awards and prizes. There are many local events and even a National competition. Check with your local poetry group for the nearest Slam event and Slam schedules. The above link is for The University of Delaware poetry slam, one of many in the State. I think you will find these events very interesting.

This from the Studio website: ‘The Delaware Writers Studio is designed to help working writers improve their craft, as well as to provide encouragement and inspiration. We offer workshops from 1:30-3:30 on the 3rd Sunday of every month (with a few exceptions, noted in the calendar) at Kirkwood Library, 6000 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.' The Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild. welcomes all Delaware writers of all genres of writing. This rom their website: ‘We are authors, journalists, teachers, retired professors of literature, memoirists, archivists, actors, editors, stand-up comics, songwriters and photographers… Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild offers education, encouragement and above all, a nurturing community of people who care about–and value–words.’ For more information on events and membership in this wonderful group, please see the link above.
The Delmarva Christian Writers Association welcomes all Delaware writers. Currently, all meetings are on hiatus, the group normally meets the third Saturday of the month at Georgetown Presbyterian Church, Tunnell Hall, 203 North Bedford Street, Georgetown, DE 19947, from 9 AM until Noon. The Delaware Literary Connection welcomes all Delaware writers of all genres. Yearly dues are $15.00. This from their website: The Delaware Literary Connection (DLC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving writers in the Delaware area and promoting the literary arts. We do this through our workshops, readings, newsletters, contests and conferences, and through strong affiliations with academic institutions and other regional literary organizations'.

About the authorSteven Robert Heine is an American poet and author. He has spent much of his life supporting poetry projects and events. He is the author of 8 volumes of poetry. In 2011 he was seriously injured in a fall that left him in great pain and almost unable to walk. He suffered a stroke in 2023. Heine receives no disability and relies on a small pension and retirement income. He is no longer able to make public appearances.

Steven Robert Heine is a West Coast poet & author. He has traveled extensively through the United States.number of times to Delaware. Heine has spent his life promoting poetry; serving as founder for many poetry contests. He is the author of fifteen books, including poetry, history and his own short auto-biographies. His books can be found on Ebay, Amazon and Amazon Kindle.
Heine was crippled in a fall in 2011 and now makes very few public appearances.
